In their home match, earlier this season we lost, on a grass wicket, from them with 19 runs in a high total match . Kampong gained 10 points from 10 matches and Bloemendaal 14 from 12. In theory again an interesting match between 2 sides who are more or less equal, but … Kampong … always tricky.
Bloemendaal won the toss and started batting. At 28 the 1st 3 wickets were down including a decent openingscore for Aldroy (19). It was Michael (51) in partnership with Madan (37) who lifted our total to a ‘so so la la’ level (157). 2 stumpings, 4 catches, a run out, sharp fielding. Kampong showed us the way.
They started their batting with an early loss of the 1st wicket on the bowling of Paddy. At 59 already 4 wickets down. Not too bad. But we forgot the basic principle of cricket; ‘catches win matches’, and Kampong fought it’s way back by a slow loss of wickets whilst still scoring their runs. With 8 overs left and 3 wickets in hand, their leading batsman J. Byrne hit the winning 2 runs.
Kampong is more and more our ‘angstgegner’. Losing from them whilst lesser teams than Bloemendaal are winning. But today the (non) catches were the match decider.
Last week a shared 2nd place, now back to the 5th.
Coming weekend another 2 points? Our beautiful (Jan-WP) prepared pitch deserves it!
