After a wash out the weekend before, we came up against Groen & Wit to be played at Sportpark Bijlmer. With a bit of confusion about where we were actually playing, we all managed to be in the right place before the start of the game. We lost the toss and were asked to bowl first. We got off to a good start with Masood and Aldroy both picking up early wickets in their first spells. Paddy followed this up a fantastic spell where he took two wickets and troubled all batsmen with his nagging seamers. Then the Groen & Wit middle order railed with an impressive partnership with two of their reaching half centuries, setting a platform for a large total. However, steady bowling by Shahid saw us build some pressure to get the break through we needed at the right time. We managed to pick up wickets regularly from there and not let the opposition gain any momentum, and we bowled them in the 48th over for 210. Masood and Paddy ended up with three wickets each. With conditions being ideal for batting and scoring we knew this was well within our reach.
Our chase started with us loosing Douwe early, however partnerships were the key to our success with good ones between James and Aldroy, Aldroy and Dave, Dave and Ben, and then Dave and Madan, this saw us breeze to victory having only lost 4 wickets and only needing 44 overs. A very untroubled chase with everyone contributing. Dave and Madan saw us home with 48 and 25 not out respectively, but congratulations must go to Aldroy, making his first half century for the club ever, and top scoring. Another solid win for Bloemendaal, and we look forward to next weekend’s match at home. Ben Langrope
