The second match of the season was against VCC away from home. Starting the match with the ball for Bloemendaal were Masood and Aldroy, and we got off to a good start. At 20 for 2 we had VCC in early trouble. As the innings wore on, the batsmen became more comfortable, and while we picked up wickets, and slowed the run rate, we were unable to put real pressure on the batting side. Mangesh was outstanding during the middle overs and only conceded 22 runs off his 10 overs. Losing Q to injury in the 15th over meant we fielded with only 10, and could only have 3 players outside the circle. VCC ended up with 224 for 7 , a total that Bloemendaal were happy with, given 10 men in the field. Lessons had been learnt from the week before in death bowling, and the fielding was solid throughout.
While we learnt lessons with the ball, we made the same mistakes with the bat. 20 for 2, 30 for 3, 40 for 4 etc etc. A top order collapse, followed by a lower order resurrection. A similar story to the VOC match. Madan, Masood and Aziz batted with patience and skill, to get us through to 123 all out, Masood in particular showing he’s an all-rounder. The methods of dismissal varied, and there are no common issues arising with the batting, it just hasn’t been good enough yet.
Another tough day on the park, but thankfully we get the opportunity to put things right 2 days later vs Kampong.
