Cricket Club Bloemendaal – Nieuws van uw penningmeester
Omdat we elkaar helaas momenteel even niet zien op de cricket club, wil ik graag van de gelegenheid gebruik maken om u langs deze weg te laten weten wat er gebeurt op de club. Ik weet dat iedereen snakt naar nieuws van de club omdat dit voor velen normaal gesproken een ontmoetingsplek is tijdens de zomer. Als penningmeester ben ik, in deze tijden waar het allereerst draait om de gezondheid van onze leden, het aanspreekpunt voor vragen rondom de plannen voor het nieuwe seizoen en natuurlijk de vragen over het effect van het Corona virus op onze financiën.
Wat zijn de consequenties van COVID-19 voor Cricket Club Bloemendaal?
We weten allemaal dat het momenteel onzekere tijden zijn. Wat er ook gebeurt, de gezondheid van onze leden en degene in onze nabijheid, komt eerst.
Zoals velen weten, moesten we onze voorjaarstrainingen staken. Dit was een teleurstelling voor iedereen. Zowel de senior- als de juniortrainingen werden beter bezocht dan andere jaren en iedereen was zeer gedreven om er een topjaar van te maken. Naast dat de trainingen werden afgelast en ook de trainingen buiten nog niet kunnen starten, zijn onze velden en het clubhuis tot nader order op last van de gemeente gesloten. Hoe lang dit zal duren weet helaas niemand, maar zodra het vrijgegeven wordt en het weer veilig is zullen we direct de cricket activiteiten weer oppakken met nog meer drive en enthousiasme dan dat we altijd al hebben gehad!
‘Social distancing cricket’, wat het ook gaat worden, we gaan er wat van maken op een veilige en leuke manier!
Club financiën
Financieel gezien zijn de consequenties voor de club veel groter dan tijdelijk niet kunnen trainen, geen cricket kunnen spelen of niet gezellig rond kunnen hangen op het terras. Als club hebben we uiteraard vaste- en variabele kosten die we niet kunnen stopzetten. We kunnen en zullen als club kosten besparen daar waar we kunnen maar de meeste kosten zullen we gewoon moeten betalen.
We zullen onze kosten zo laag mogelijk houden en zullen ook een beroep doen op de regeling die de overheid in het vooruitzicht stelt maar we moeten ook blijven investeren als we op willen gaan voor de volgende 110 jaar. Om de kosten te kunnen dekken voor het betalen van trainers, cricket materialen, zaal-, veld- en materialenhuur, onderhoud, verzekeringen, schoonmaak, afschrijvingen en nutsvoorzieningen, dienen we, om break even te draaien, € 40.000 inkomsten te genereren per jaar. Voorlopig zien we geen inkomsten en winsten komen uit de bar en moeten we onderkennen dat veel van onze sponsoren het op dit moment ook lastig hebben.
Vooral diegene in de dranken- en voedselvoorziening hebben het zwaar. Catering, wijnhandel, restaurantsponsors hebben ook jullie support hard nodig en we vragen een ieder die dit kan om onze sponsors ook in deze tijden te steunen en bij hen uw inkopen te doen.
De jaarlijkse Cricket Club contributie
Ik kan me voorstellen dat sommigen van u zich afvragen hoe het zit met de jaarlijkse contributie die u betaalt aan de club. U denkt wellicht; ‘ik betaal maar misschien kan ik wel helemaal niet spelen dit jaar’, en dat voelt natuurlijk niet goed. Hoewel we als club niet uit zijn op winst, kunnen we helaas de jaarlijkse contributie niet verlagen omdat onze vaste kosten blijven doorlopen en we ook voldoende reserves moeten hebben om onderhoud te plegen, we willen er zeker van zijn dat we onze leden faciliteiten kunnen blijven bieden die nodig zijn om veilig en degelijk te kunnen trainen en spelen.
Velen zullen onderkennen dat we in de afgelopen jaren al fors hebben geïnvesteerd in onze cricket faciliteiten, maar er is zeker meer nodig. Om maar een voorbeeld te noemen, onze screens op beide velden zijn hoognodig aan vervanging toe en daarvoor is een serieus bedrag nodig. Wij vragen om uw begrip, ook voor ons is dit een overmacht situatie. In hele speciale gevallen, kunnen wij gaan kijken naar een betalingsregeling wanneer blijkt dat u ook door deze situatie in de problemen bent geraakt. Meld u zich dan alstublieft bij mij, dan zoeken we samen naar een oplossing.

Het is dit jaar weer een lustrumjaar, ons 115e jaar bestaan. Wij als familieclub bestaan dankzij het enorme enthousiasme en de ondersteuning van onze leden. Wij waarderen dit zeer en drijven ook op deze gedachte. Volgt u alstublieft alle aanwijzingen van de lokale- en centrale overheden op en blijf gezond! Ik kijk er enorm naar uit om iedereen weer gezond terug te zien op de club, hopelijk heel snel!
Cricket Club Bloemendaal – News from the Treasurer
Now that we have temporarily suspended cricketing activities, let me take the opportunity to let you know what is happening at the club. I know many of you are craving for news from the cricket club that is for so many the focal point of our summer. As club Treasurer, in times like this, where our members’ health comes first, I am frequently the first point of contact for questions concerning plans for the new season and of course, questions concerning the effect of the Corona virus on our finances.
What are the consequences of COVID-19 for Cricket Club Bloemendaal?
Needless to say, we are living in unprecedented times. Whatever happens, the health of our members and that of those in our immediate vicinity, comes first.
As many of you know, we have had to suspend pre-season training which is, of course, disappointing. Both the senior and youth training sessions were attended by record numbers and things were shaping up nicely for a fantastic season. Although preparations have been in full swing for a long time now, like other sports clubs, as well as suspending group trainings, access is now closed to both our clubhouse and both our grounds. How long this will last is a question we, of course, cannot answer, but as soon as it is deemed safe to do so, we shall resume cricketing activities with more gusto and enthusiasm than perhaps, ever before!

Club Finances
Financially, the consequences for the club are much more far reaching than temporally not being able to train, play games of cricket, and congregate on the clubhouse terrace. As a club we have a number of fixed and variable costs that cannot be avoided. The club may be able to mitigate some costs, but most, we shall simply have to pay.
We shall of course try to keep our costs to the bare minimum and apply for government relief, to the extent that it is available, but we need to keep investing if we wish to thrive for another 110 years. When you factor in the costs of training, cricket materials, ground and equipment hire and maintenance, insurance, utilities, cleaning, capital equipment depreciation, indoor training facilities and coaching, just to break even the club needs an income of nearly EUR 40K per annum. On the income side, profits from bar takings and functions have temporarily dried up completely, whilst many of our broad spectrum of club sponsors are facing a tough time right now.
In particular, some of our food and drink, catering. Hospitality and restaurant trade sponsors need your support and we would encourage you do so, whenever possible.
Cricket Club Annual Contributions
I can imagine that some of you are wondering what the situation is, concerning your annual contributions to the club. I am paying but may not be able to play cricket throughout the whole year and, of course, that doesn’t feel great. Although the club is a not-for-profit organization, unfortunately, we can’t reduce our annual fees because most of our costs remain fixed and we need to maintain sufficient reserves to be able to provide our members with the facilities they require.
As most of you will recognise, we have made substantial investments in our cricketing facilities in the past few years, yet more is required. Not least of which, as soon as possible, we shall have to upgrade, at a substantial cost, the cricketing screens used on both grounds. However, should some club members be facing short term financial difficulties, please contact me to let me know and, in special cases, we can look at financing options or, in extreme cases, an annual fee reduction.

This year is our 115th anniversary. Our club resembles a family that thrives thanks to the tremendous enthusiasm and support from our members, something than nobody takes for granted.
